Current and Future Leaders Join Peru’s Ambassadors for Peace

Lima, Peru – Throughout August, UPF-Peru held several events aimed at expanding and strengthening its nationwide Ambassador for Peace network.
On August 8, 2025, nearly 200 civic and business leaders joined a National Business Forum at the Ramón Castilla House (the residence of a former president of Peru, now a museum in the center of Lima), co-sponsored by UPF-Peru and the International Association for Peace and Economic Development (IAED).
Following welcoming remarks from UPF-Peru President Dr. Trevor Jones, sent from London by video, Secretary General Mr. Jaime Fernández Túpac gave a presentation explaining UPF’s five principles of peace. Additional speakers included former Foreign Minister Dr. Miguel Angel Rodríguez Mackay. Forty new UPF ambassadors for peace were sworn in.
On August 10, following a six-week educational program in the district of Guaymaral, Bogota, Colombia, 30 young people were recognized as Youth Ambassadors for Peace at a ceremony in the auditorium of the New Sinai Christian Church. The program, entitled “Peace Builders,” taught participants ways to practice and foster respect and harmony in their families and communities.
Local leaders and parents attended the ceremony, some of whom addressed the group and highlighted the importance of training young people in building peace.
On August 21, two UPF peace ambassadors were featured in a program called Ambassadors for Peace on Luna 9 Radio Digital, hosted by Ms. María Librada Hinojosa Flores and Ms. Francisco Isla. The guests, Ms. Vielka Murillo Godoy, author or co-author of numerous scientific publications, and Ms. Marta Cecilia Rodríguez Zavala, agricultural engineer and forest specialist, addressed the topic, "Nature is Peace; Protecting it is Sharing it."
On August 28, to mark the National Day of the Elderly, UPF-Peru sponsored a celebration organized by the Geronto Healthy Living Club at the Playa Rimac Senior Citizens Auditorium in Lima. More than 40 senior citizens were honored at this event.
On August 29, in the city of Huancayo, around 150 people participated in an event held in the auditorium of the provincial government, sponsored by the office of Congressman Dr. Raúl Huamán Coronado, a UPF ambassador for peace. Dr. Trevor Jones, in a video message, explained the history and vision of UPF and its founders, and Mr. Jaime Fernández shared UPF’s five principles of peace.
Sixty-six new ambassadors for peace were inducted, includingthe provincial mayor of Huancayo, provincial and district mayors, councilors, religious figures, lawyers, academics, and native chiefs from the Peruvian Amazon.
UPF-President Dr. Trevor Jones received a plaque of recognition from the Congress of the Republic of Peru for his dedication and leadership in promoting actions that strengthen peace, interdependence, and hope for a better future for all.
On August 30, Mr. Jaime Fernandez visited the office of Mr. Yover Carhuamaca Fernández, district mayor of Huachac, Junín, who pledged his support for an upcoming Peace Road event on October 24, 2025.
Also, at the Huancayo branch office of UPF-Peru, Mr. Jaime Fernández met with local ambassadors for peace and shared a report about the activities of other UPF branches. The ambassadors agreed to support the Peace Road event to be held in their district on October 24; tentatively planned a Forum for a Culture of Peace in November; and committed to organizing community programs in December, with hot chocolate and gifts for local children.
