Argentina Peace Road Launch in Jujuy Coincides with Peace Vigil

San Salvador de Jujuy, Argentina – The formal launch of UPF-Argentina’s 12th Peace Road in the city of San Salvador de Jujuy took place on August 5, 2026, at the NIDO Cuyaya community center. The launch was combined with a vigil for peace to mark the 81st anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima in Japan, an activity promoted by the Japanese Association of Jujuy and the municipal government, as part of a worldwide movement to abolish nuclear weapons.
The event was organized by the AVES Foundation (Environment, Life, Education and Sustainability) and the Japanese Association – provincial institutional representatives of the 2026 Peace Road – with the support of the municipality’s secretary of culture and various local entities. It drew wide institutional and community representation, including local authorities, representatives of various communities and neighborhood groups, school leadership and families.
The ceremony began with the entry of students carrying the flags of Argentina, Japan and the Peace Flag. This was followed by the national anthems of Argentina and Japan.
Ambassador for Peace and member of the Aves Foundation Ms. Nancy García Molina commented on the pride and honor of the 12th Peace Road beginning in Jujuy with this as the first activity.
A key moment was the connection with Japan, with pictures and live audio broadcast from the main ceremony in Hiroshima, with a message of remembrance of the tragic incident that marked the end of World War II, the need for disarmament, and the hope for a violence-free world.
Games and art activities engaged children and teenagers, including making paper cranes, a traditional Japanese symbol of peace.
A series of Peace Road events will continue in the city through November, including educational, cultural and community activities. At the same time, activities will take place in other parts of the country.
For its promotion of community peace and harmony, Peace Road was recognized by the Jujuy legislature as a program “of permanent legislative interest” on August 20, 2025, and by the City Council as “of permanent municipal interest” on November 4, 2025.
