Argentina Peace Road Extends to Antarctica
Monte Grande, Argentina – In connection with Argentina’s Peace Road 2026, an Antarctica-related educational and cultural presentation was held on October 23, 2026, including communication with Argentina’s permanent research station, the Esperanza Base. The event took place at the Esteban Echeverría Municipal Auditorium in Monte Grande, Buenos Aires province.
“Spreading and Raising Awareness on the Value of our Sovereignty” was the theme of the meeting, organized by the Yanagus Educational and Cultural Civil Association, as part of its project “Antarctica: Uniting Continents,” which promotes environmental awareness. The group promotes harmony in Antarctica, the immense territory called the “white continent of peace.”
Ms. Gladys Tronchín, the group’s director of education and culture, organized the event along with its general director, Mr. Guillermo Bulacio. They are Peace Road institutional representatives who carry out their educational work with passion, emphasizing Argentina’s bi-continentality and providing details on the fourth-largest continent, which is larger than Europe and Oceania, preceded by Asia, America and Africa.
The surprise moment was the communication with the Esperanza Base, located at Hope Bay on the Antarctic Peninsula, which allowed an interesting exchange with an audience of around 100 people. Images were shown of the Argentinian base, including military, scientific and service facilities, a school, and a radio station.
Mr. Miguel Werner, UPF-Argentina president, shared information about the global Peace Road campaign, which began in Korea in 2013 and is rolling out its 12th series of events in Argentina. This is the seventh year at a national level, with initiatives and activities in all 23 provinces, Buenos Aires City, and Antarctica, through various civil society and public sector entities.
This was also an opportunity to reaffirm the relevance of the Patagonian region, at the southern tip of Argentina. The coastal city of Puerto San Julián, in the southern province of Santa Cruz, was selected as the main venue for Peace Road 2026. This is where the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan docked during his 1520 expedition, and the place where the first mass was celebrated in the country.
Through its Peace Road campaign, UPF-Argentina identifies and shares good actions, initiatives and activities from the most diverse organizations and areas; promoting volunteering and service, a source of joy and energy, creating synergy for a healthier, friendlier and more sustainable life.
