UPF-USA Hosts "Eid Al Adha" Community Celebration

Washington, D.C., USA—On July 1, 2023, UPF-USA and The Nation’s Mosque, led by Imam Talib Shareef, hosted a “Happy Eid Al Adha, Community Celebration Awards Luncheon” at the Arbor Ballroom in The Washington Times building.

According to Wikipedia: Eid Al Adha is the Feast of Sacrifice, the second and the largest of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam (the other being Eid al-Fitr). It honors the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as an act of obedience to God’s command. Part of the meat is consumed by the family offering the animal, while the rest is distributed to the poor and the needy. Sweets and gifts are given, and extended family members typically visit and are welcomed. The day is also sometimes called the Greater Eid.

Imam Talib Shareef, a long-time friend of UPF, attended one of the international leadership conferences in Korea. He has a profound admiration for the work of gathering people to achieve peace by Rev. Moon and his wife, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon. On National Parents Day 2022 his couple was recognized for their outstanding excellence in parenting.

Imam Shareef presented awards and thanks to several members and teams dedicated to building The Nation’s Mosque at this happy Eid Al Adha luncheon.

UPF-USA designated four outstanding volunteers as “Ambassadors for Peace” and encouraged them to collaborate to build unity among different races, genders and religions.

On these occasions we have a chance to learn the excellent religious traditions of other faiths and come to know remarkable people for their dedication to doing good.
