UPF Representatives Serve as Election Monitors in Zambia
Lusaka, Zambia – The Electoral Commission of Zambia formally accredited UPF-Zambia to participate in the monitoring and observation of the 2026 General Elections, held on August 13. In preparation for the electoral process, UPF-Zambia conducted a one-day training workshop for 10 election monitors and observers on August 11, 2026, at the Peace Embassy in Lusaka.
Mr. Fabrice Djimadoum, a UPF staff member, served as MC and introduced the purpose of the training, which was to equip the election observers and monitors with the necessary knowledge and tools to carry out their duties diligently and responsibly.
Rev. Rudolf Faerber, secretary general of UPF-Zambia, delivered a presentation on “Principles for Peace and Sustainable Development,” followed by “Attitudes for Genuine Democratic Behavior: Electoral Responsibility and National Unity.”
In his presentation, Rev. Faerber emphasized the importance of peace, unity and responsible citizenship. He explained to the participants that their role went beyond simply observing the conduct of elections, and that they were expected to contribute to a peaceful and respectful electoral environment by remaining impartial, neutral and professional in executing their duties.
In his appeal to the conscience of the participants, Rev. Faerber emphasized that peace requires justice, truth and mutual respect, encouraging everyone to exercise responsible speech, respect national institutions, protect national unity, and work toward peaceful elections for the benefit of future generations. He concluded by reminding everyone of their responsibility to support all stakeholders in ensuring peaceful, dignified and democratic elections.
Following the training, 10 UPF representatives were deployed to various polling stations across Lusaka to observe and monitor the electoral process. During the ballot-counting period, Rev. Rudolf Faerber was invited on August 16 to participate in a live interview on Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC TV2). The approximately 30-minute interview formed part of the station’s engagement with key civic and interfaith leaders to encourage peaceful conduct during the post-election period.
The electoral process before, during and after the proclamation of the results was conducted peacefully. The official presidential results were proclaimed in the early hours of August 18, with President Hakainde Hichilema re-elected for another five-year term.
