Bangkok, Thailand – UPF-Thailand, in partnership with the Department of Women’s Affairs and Family Development and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, organized a seminar on June 12, 2026, to commemorate the Global Day of Parents. The event, titled “Love Your Spouse Well, Raise Your Children for Success,” was held in the main hall at UPF’s headquarters in Bangkok, as well as online.
The program aimed to promote love and mutual understanding between husband and wife, and empower them to become parents who pass on a heart of love, gratitude and moral responsibility to their children in the digital era. More than 120 participants attended, with another 300 tuning in via Zoom from across the country.
Participants included parents, couples, youth leaders, university and school students, as well as ambassadors for peace and government officials. Notable attendees represented the two co-sponsoring government departments, community development volunteers and educators.
Prior to the opening ceremony, Mr. Kamol Thananopavarn, secretary general of UPF-Thailand, invited participants to observe a minute of silence in tribute to Princess Bajrakitiyabha, who passed away on June 11 at the age of 47.
The seminar commenced in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with Dr. Panadda Wongphudee, founder of Goodness Foundation, serving as the master of ceremonies. General Terdsak Marrome, president of UPF-Thailand, delivered welcome remarks. Mrs. Suda Sulong, deputy director general of the Department of Women's Affairs and Family Development, presided over the event and delivered the opening address, highlighting the profound importance of the family as the critical foundation for the well-being and stability of Thai society.
Dr. Lek Thaveetermsakul, vice president of UPF-Thailand, spoke on the significance of becoming an ambassador for peace, honoring individuals who live for the sake of others and make sacrifices for society and the nation. This was followed by an appointment ceremony presenting certificates to the newly appointed ambassadors for peace, Mr. Narong Sakulsirirat and Dr. Chutchanun Tanomvorsin, as well as presenting certificates of appreciation to the project's supporters.
To support the education of Thai youth, UPF-Thailand presented 20 scholarships to students from secondary and vocational schools, as well as universities. The scholarships were awarded to students who have demonstrated academic diligence, but whose families face financial constraints.
Addressing the main topic of parenting, Col. Pongsak Tangkana delivered a lecture on “Communication Techniques and Teamwork Between Couples,” highlighting the importance of moral and ethical principles in positive communication to reduce conflict and build a powerful “teamwork” dynamic in married life, as a positive role model for children. He suggested that, while conflicts in a marital relationship may arise, if couples practice patience, commit to love and sacrifice, and utilize proper communication methods, they can become great parents capable of passing on a heart of love to their children.
Ms. Ursula McLackland, president of UPF-Asia Pacific, delivered a lecture entitled “Parenting through the Four Realms of Heart.” This framework explains the hearts of children, siblings, spouses, and parents, and the different types of love they share. Drawing from over 40 years of experience in parenting and providing counseling to couples and parents, she shared profound insights on how to foster a heart of gratitude and filial piety among the youth.
In the final session, Mr. Thananopavarn invited all participants, both present and online, to proclaim the “Covenant of Happiness for Warm and Strong Families.” This declaration represented a shared commitment to being loving and united parents who raise their children to have a filial heart, high moral standards, and a sense of responsibility toward their nation and their faith.
To conclude, online participants across the country turned on their cameras to take a group photo with the attendees in the auditorium, bringing the seminar to a warm and memorable close.
