Tanzanian Peace Leadership Seminar Inspires Local Commitment

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – A two-day Peace Leadership Seminar, organized by UPF-Tanzania at the Tulivu Centre in Dar es Salaam from May 23-24, 2026, focused on the theme “Building One Family Under God: Principles of Peace and Service.” The seminar brought together 65 participants from faith communities, youth groups and civil society organizations.
Facilitated by Prof. Benezer David Mwang’ombe, secretary general of UPF-Tanzania, the training covered the UPF founders’ vision and the Five Universal Principles of Peace; interfaith cooperation and dialogue methods; community peace project planning; and the role of ambassadors for peace in national reconciliation. As an immediate outcome, 28 participants committed to initiating local peace projects within their respective communities within 60 days.
In parallel, regional consultation visits were conducted to strengthen outreach and identify emerging leaders. In Mwanza on May 19, meetings were held with 14 religious leaders to discuss peace initiatives within the Lake Zone. In Arusha on May 22, a youth leadership training session engaged 15 university students, focusing on conflict resolution and leadership development. These engagements contributed to broader grassroots mobilization and candidate identification for future peace work.
Following the training and consultations, a vetting process led to the appointment of 10 new ambassadors for peace on May 24. The cohort included religious leaders, youth leaders, educators and professionals from the economic sector, with notable appointees including Archbishop Dr. Blasious Rogers Tasobya, Bishop Dr. John Ndagize, Bishop Dr. Makika, Dr. Kizito Sande Robert, Dr. Felix Joseph Haile, Dr. Erick Elias Sele, Dr. Festo Nathaniel Kayombo, Dr. Regnard Heroni Mdugi, Dr. Anna Godlove Mbwilo, and Dr. Azavery Phares Mfungo.
