Russian Views Sport as a Force for Good

Moscow, Russia—A Russian Ambassador for Peace who participated in a Peace Road event in Pyongyang in 2019 was the subject of an online interview conducted by UPF.

The interview with Sergei Nepsha, which was conducted by UPF-Moscow leader Dmitry Samko on October 16, 2023, received about 4,500 views on social networks.

Sergei, an entrepreneur who with a partner started a business building houseboats, began his sports career in his youth. His passion for running became not just a hobby but a life philosophy. In 2014, he was honored as a UPF Ambassador for Peace.

“Sport is not just physical activity; it is a way to understand your capabilities and overcome yourself,” he said in the interview with UPF. He has taken part in various marathons covering many kilometers, challenging his personal records and boundaries.

One of the brightest moments in his public life was his participation in the UPF Peace Road initiative. This project brings together athletes from all continents, offering a unique opportunity to run marathons or cycle around the world and overcome geographical, cultural and language barriers.

Sergei took an active part in the 2019 Peace Road project in North Korea, where he not only completed a half-marathon distance of 21 kilometers and rode a bicycle through Pyongyang as part of a team, but also realized the power of sports to blur boundaries between cultures and change concepts even about a closed country like North Korea.

Sergei also has been actively involved in charitable projects and social initiatives. He believes in the power of sport to change people’s lives.

“Running is not only a way to stay healthy, but also a way to make the world a better place for everyone,” he emphasized. He supports projects to help those in need, participates in charity races and contributes to creating a better world for all of us.

Sergei Nepsha’s example shows how sport becomes a source of inspiration, a force that can change our vision of the world and make it brighter. His dedication to running and participation in charity projects serve as an example for everyone. Sergei proves that any of us, regardless of age or experience, can contribute to creating a better world through sports, good deeds and inspiration.
