Atalaya, Peru – Peace Road 2024-Peru was launched with two events in the town of Atalaya in the Peruvian Amazon. A colorful launch ceremony on August 24 was followed by a parade through the town the following day. Both events generated a great deal of enthusiasm among the local community.
UPF-Peru, with the sponsorship of the provincial mayor of Atalaya, Mr. Francisco de Asís Mendoza de Souza, held the launch ceremony in the Municipal Auditorium. Dr. Trevor Jones, president of UPF-Peru, gave the welcoming remarks through a video sent from London.
The mayor thanked UPF for launching the Peace Road in his city, bringing the hope of peace, harmony and unity, focused on the values and ideal of true families.
Secretary general of UPF-Peru, Mr. Jaime José Fernández Túpac, presented and explained the meaning of the Peace Road Project, launched in the 1980s by the founders of UPF. Videos about the history of UPF and the Mother of Peace were shown.
Five new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed, including the mayor of Atalaya. This was followed by a presentation of local music and dance, performed by students of the Intercultural University of Atalaya. The auditorium was completely filled with guests.
The Peace Road parade was held the next day, Sunday, August 25. Mr. Túpac gave the opening remarks, explaining again the purpose of Peace Road 2024 and the global peace project. Then he joined the mayor of Atalaya and other key personalities in raising the flag of the province.
More than 120 people from all walks of life participated, including the Asháninca Ambassadors for Peace, native youth from various communities, and local organizations, each bringing their distinctive banners and flags, representing peace. They completed the walk through the town despite the heavy rain that threatened to disrupt the event.
