Kathmandu, Nepal – Under the theme “One World, One Family,” UPF-Nepal and the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) Nepal organized an event on June 6, 2026, at the Peace Embassy in Kathmandu, in observance of the UN Global Day of Parents. The event brought together diplomats, religious leaders, educators, journalists, peace ambassadors and members of the community. The gathering served as a meaningful platform to discuss the importance of family values, peace, harmony and interfaith cooperation through speeches, cultural performances, prayers and recognition programs.
Former ambassador of Nepal to Australia, Amb. Mahesh Raj Dahal, spoke about the growing need for strong family values in today’s world. He emphasized that many social and global challenges can be addressed through ethical upbringing, respect among family members, and unity between generations. He noted that families play a vital role in shaping responsible citizens and peaceful societies.
Rev. Krishna Adhikari, director of FFWPU South Asia, shared an inspiring message on universal parenthood and the oneness of humanity. He said that all people belong to one human family under their Heavenly Parents, describing God as the common parent of humankind. Referring to the philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” meaning “the world is one family,” he encouraged participants to move beyond divisions and work together with mutual respect, understanding and compassion for lasting peace.
Mr. Narayan Prasad Mainali, former acting consul general of Nepal in New York, said that parents represent a deep-rooted philosophy and value system essential for building a strong society and nation. Other speakers also reflected on the irreplaceable role of parents in nurturing individuals and guiding future generations. Mr.
Santosh Kumar Paudel, vice president of UPF-Asia Pacific, remarked that “Family is heritage, and parents are heritage,” stressing the importance of preserving family integrity and moral values in modern society.
The program recognized the significance of the UN initiative in establishing June 1 as the Global Day of Parents, to honor the lifelong dedication and sacrifices made by parents around the world. Speakers appreciated the role of families as the foundation of society and highlighted the need to support parents for the healthy development of children and communities.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Ambassador for Peace Award to Mr. Naba Raj Kafle and Mrs. Samjhana Giri Kafle, founding chairpersons of the Abroad Students’ Guardians’ Association of Nepal, Central Committee. Mr. Kafle shared his reflections on more than a decade of advocacy work focused on strengthening the relationship between parents, children and schools in shaping the future generation. He expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to family-centered educational and social development.
The program concluded with a renewed commitment from organizers and participants to promoting family values, parental respect, interfaith harmony and peacebuilding activities in society. The celebration served as an inspiring reminder that strong families are the foundation of a peaceful, united and compassionate world.
