Kenyan University Lectures Tie Peace to Good Governance

Updated: 2 days ago

Nairobi, Kenya – On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, UPF-Kenya inaugurated a university lecture series on the Principles of Peace at Tangaza University in Nairobi. The event marked a pioneering step in merging UPF’s vision of peace with academic excellence, drawing the participation of 33 students, including four PhD candidates and 26 Master’s students from the Governance Department.

The lecture series, hosted in collaboration with Tangaza University, represented both an academic initiative and a strategic outreach program – a platform to introduce UPF’s peace principles within academic institutions while enriching governance studies with ethical and moral dimensions.

The inaugural session featured Dr. Reginald Nalugala, a respected ambassador for peace and professor of governance, who delivered a thought-provoking address on the Principles of Peace. His presentation explored how moral leadership, service, and a culture of living for the sake of others can guide governance and leadership practices in Africa.

The lecture was moderated and presented by Rev. Fredrick Wakhisi, who offered a UPF perspective on the global relevance of peacebuilding through education. Together, the two speakers created an engaging dialogue between faith-based values and academic scholarship, encouraging students to see peace not merely as a social ideal but as a practical framework for governance and policy development.

The session was warm, engaging, and intellectually stimulating. Students listened attentively, frequently engaging the speakers with thoughtful questions on the application of peace principles in governance and policy. The atmosphere reflected genuine curiosity and appreciation. Many participants expressed their excitement for upcoming lectures and their hope to establish a formal UPF–university partnership that could expand into research collaborations and peace education programs.

The day ended with a sense of accomplishment and inspiration – a clear indication that this academic initiative has opened a new pathway for peace leadership in Kenyan higher education.
