Oslo, Norway – In the main library of Oslo, UPF-Norway celebrated the UN International Day of Peace on September 22, 2025, with an event themed “Towards a Culture of Peace in Difficult Times.”
In a time marked by wars and conflicts, the aim of the program was to highlight hope for the future. Mr. Steinar Murud, secretary general of UPF-Norway, pointed out that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations; 15 years since the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted; and 25 years since the UN proclaimed the International Year for the Culture of Peace. He spoke of the promising vision and programs these events represent.
Members of eight different faith communities participated and shared their thoughts and inspirations for a way towards a brighter future.
The program included speakers from the Quaker society, the Church of Norway, the Bahai community, Sunni Islam, the Sikh community, the Ahmadiyya community, the Sri Lanka temple and the Hindu community in Oslo.
The event concluded with a ceremony for peace, in which each participant placed a single white rose into one vase, creating a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
