The Universal Peace Federation (UPF) proudly joins the global community in celebrating World Oceans Day on June 8, 2025, held under the inspiring theme: “Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us.”
Today, we recognize the immense value of the ocean — a source of life, nourishment, and awe-inspiring beauty. The ocean provides food, regulates our climate, and supports an intricate web of biodiversity. More than that, it connects people and nations, reminding us of our shared destiny and interdependence.
The co-founders of UPF have emphasized the ocean’s potential to become a key source of nutrition and livelihood for all humanity. This foresight continues to guide our efforts in promoting the ocean’s sustainable use for the benefit of future generations.
As an NGO in general consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, UPF reaffirms its deep commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the principle of interdependence. Our vision — a world of peace rooted in universal spiritual and moral values — is inextricably linked to the care and preservation of our natural environment, especially our oceans.
This year’s observance comes at a moment of renewed global resolve. The Third UN Ocean Conference, currently underway in Nice, France, and the global initiative “Catalyzing Action for Our Ocean and Climate”, highlight a crucial truth: the time to act is now.
We call upon all UPF's Ambassadors for Peace, partner organizations, and young leaders around the world to:
• Become stewards of the ocean.
• Raise awareness in your communities.
• Educate others about the ocean’s importance.
• Advocate for responsible and sustainable policies.
• Take concrete actions to preserve the ocean’s health and future.
On this meaningful day, we invite UPF chapters and peace-loving individuals everywhere to regard our oceans and water resources as sacred treasures — essential to life, peace, and prosperity. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the environmental volunteers, conservationists, educators, artists, and explorers whose efforts inspire action and awe in the face of the ocean’s wonders.
Let us stand united in purpose and action. Let us protect this irreplaceable gift of nature — the ocean — not only for today, but for the generations yet to come.
