Lisbon, Portugal—Based on its years of interfaith work, UPF was invited to the 41st anniversary of the founding of the Hindu Community in Portugal.
Founded in 1982 in Lisbon, they have been gaining a major role among the religious communities as well as on the social field. Faithful to their principle of interreligious harmony, they invited to the celebration several representatives of religions, together with municipalities, associations and the High Commission for Migration.
The High Commission for Migration (ACM) is a public institution directly dependent on the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of Portugal. One of its many missions is managing diversity between the nation’s cultures, ethnicities and religions.
The anniversary celebration on January 14, 2023, gave the UPF-Portugal representatives the possibility to personally meet Dr. Sónia Pereira, the high commissioner of ACM (High Commission for Migration), and introduce her to UPF’s work and vision on interreligious and interracial harmony.
This moment was shared as well with a Brahma Kumaris representative, two members of Odivelas City Hall and the newly appointed vice president of the Hindu Community, Dr. Harun Carsane. In a very friendly atmosphere, common values and future plans were discussed.
In times of confusion and turmoil like the ones the world is facing, the UPF founders’ vision is more and more recognized and cherished as a fundamental way to bring everlasting peace.
