Birmingham, United Kingdom – At its third Principles of Peace evening on June 11, 2026, UPF-West Midlands invited participants to discuss God's work in history to bring humanity back to the original ideal of peace, emphasizing forgiveness and reconciliation.
Around 70 friends from different faiths, nationalities, races and cultures attended – a melting pot of people from varied social backgrounds.
During the presentation Mr. David Earle, director of UPF-West Midlands, mentioned several outstanding examples of people who practiced forgiveness in their lives, including Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, and Rev. Sun Myung Moon and his wife, Dr. Hak Ja Han, who returned to North Korea at the risk of their lives to meet with President Kim Il Sung, who had in the past attempted to have Rev. Moon assassinated.
Following his talk, various people shared real examples from their own faith traditions. It was an inspiring and educational experience for all.
Three Imams, six Christian ministers and one Sikh leader, as well as one city councilor and one former lord mayor, were among those attending. In addition there were many new guests, including young people and many women.
After a quiet time of reflection, the program concluded with an interfaith song. The atmosphere throughout was warm and inclusive.
A number of attendees commented that, at this very challenging time in the world, it was very meaningful to bring together such a diverse group of people to take a stand for peace.
