Chonburi, Thailand – Every year UPF-Thailand organizes nationwide events, supported by the Ministry of Education and the Thai government, to commemorate the UN International Day of Peace. This year’s events, on the theme “Act Now for a Peaceful World,” took place in thousands of schools and educational institutions across the country, from September 10 to 25, 2025.
The project seeks to cultivate a culture of peace by fostering awareness and collective participation in building and promoting peace. It supports and encourages reconciliation, harmony and tranquility, starting from the individual to the family, community, and educational institutions, extending to society, the nation and the world. As awareness grows, it becomes a positive and constructive force that allows a culture of peace to emerge and grow sustainably.
UPF-Thailand was honored to receive a message of peace from H.E. Phumtham Wechayachai, the deputy prime minister, on behalf of the prime minister. For more than 20 years, prime ministers of Thailand have supported this annual project by providing a message of peace.
The main event was held on September 10, 2025, at the Eastern College of Technology (E-Tech) in Chonburi province, with over 8,800 students, teachers, and government officials in attendance. Mr. Kamol Thananopavarn, secretary general of UPF-Thailand, served as the master of ceremonies.
Following the morning flag-raising ceremony, Dr. Prasert Klinchoo, director of E-Tech, gave the welcoming speech. Next, General Terdsak Marrome, president of UPF-Thailand, read the UPF Peace Message. This was followed by Senator Angkun Khlaikhlueng reading the Peace Message from the deputy prime minister. The Peace Message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres was then read in English by Mrs. Ursula McLackland, UPF-Asia Pacific secretary general, and in Thai by Mr. Polkrit Khommaphat, an E-Tech student. The event concluded with a minute of silent prayer for peace.
Dr. Lek Thaveetermsakul, vice president of UPF-Thailand, explained the significance of the Ambassador for Peace award. Following his remarks, General Terdsak Marrome presented the awards to three distinguished individuals who have dedicated their lives to promoting peace. The recipients, all from E-Tech, were Mr. Tikumporn Aroonngamwong, president of E-Tech Company; chairman of the board Mr. Somchai Ngamwongwan; and director Dr. Prasert Klinchoo.
This year, over 2,000 schools and educational institutions participated in the project, reaching approximately one million students and teachers nationwide.
