Russian Summer Camp Activities Raise Environmental Awareness
Voronezh, Russia – On August 29, 2026, an Environmental Education Day was held for children at a summer camp in Voronezh Region, Russia. The project was organized by Ms. Elena Knyazeva, coordinator of environmental programs for UPF-Russia.
Around 150 children took part in the program, with teachers from the Palace of Children and Youth Creativity volunteering to support the activities. The children completed assignments on local history and the history of their native region, as well as environmental challenges and quizzes. They learned interesting facts about the nature of Voronezh Region and discussed practical ways to care for and protect the environment.
The program also introduced the children to the history of the Voronezh matryoshka – a set of nesting dolls made of soft wood and painted by hand – after which they created their own Voronezh matryoshka souvenir to take home.
An important part of the day was devoted to waste sorting and recycling. The children learned why proper waste management matters and how simple everyday actions can contribute to protecting the environment.
The Environmental Education Day in Voronezh was an engaging, informative, and productive experience, combining environmental awareness, local history, creativity and hands-on activities.
