Munich, Germany – On the occasion of the UN International Day of Peace, UPF-Munich and the Women's Federation for World Peace (WFWP) Germany hosted a prayer breakfast on Saturday morning, September 27, 2025. Peace ambassadors, members, friends, and guests from various religious communities attended.
After a brief welcome, a prayer, and an introduction to the UN theme, “Act Now for a Peaceful World,” all participants had the opportunity to get to know each other and exchange ideas over breakfast. Afterwards, the MC, Mr. Robert Bentele, spoke about the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, the value of interreligious dialogue, and the tradition of such events at UPF International and the local Munich group, which has held 20 such annual meetings.
Imam Abdussalam Bhatti, of the Ahmadiyya Community of Munich, was the first to take the podium. He expressed his deep desire for peace in the Middle East and recalled that even in the Ottoman Empire, there was relatively peaceful coexistence between religious communities. He asked everyone to pray for peace.
Ms. Magda Haugen, chair of WFWP Germany, spoke about the role of women in peace and introduced several famous historical advocates of non-violent activism, such as Nobel Peace Prize winner Baroness Berta von Suttner and Abbess Hildegard von Bingen. She argued that women's participation in peace processes would have lasting impact.
Following the presentations, there was a lively Q&A session, along with further short, inspiring contributions on the topic and prayers for peace. Finally, threats to religious freedom were addressed, and the fact that now in South Korea, the newly elected left-wing government is cracking down on religious communities. In particular, the pre-trial detention of Dr. Hak Ja Han, co-founder of UPF, was explained. Everyone present was shocked, expressed their concern, and agreed to include the situation in their prayers.
