Indian Students Compete in Conflict Resolution Challenge
New Delhi, India – In an innovative approach to peace education, the Peace Club of Mata Sundri College for Women at the University of Delhi in New Delhi, in collaboration with UPF-India, commemorated the UN International Day of Peace on September 21, 2026, by organizing a solution-oriented challenge for students titled “The Peace Court: Youth Dialogue, Argumentation and Solution-Oriented Competition."
The event commenced with a warm welcome ceremony for the distinguished guests, faculty members and esteemed panel of judges. The program was organized under the guidance and leadership of the convener, Dr. Neetu Sharma, and co-convener, Dr. Moitri Dey, who welcomed the delegates and highlighted the Peace Club's commitment to youth leadership and peace education.
Mr. Manoj Kumar, secretary general of UPF-India, delivered the opening remarks. In his inspiring address, Mr. Kumar emphasized the core theme of the day – "Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day" – and highlighted the vital role of youth leadership, moral character and constructive dialogue in resolving modern societal conflicts. He stressed that true peace begins with understanding, empathy and active engagement among young minds.
The main segment, "The Peace Court," was designed as an interactive, mock courtroom platform to engage students in structured debate and critical thinking. Participant teams were assigned specific case scenarios addressing contemporary social and institutional challenges. Each team prepared and presented their viewpoints before the panel of judges, practicing constructive argumentation rather than confrontation. Through dynamic debate and counter-argument, the participants successfully demonstrated how conflicting perspectives can lead to practical, peaceful solutions.
Following the competition, the panel of judges shared their closing remarks, commending the participants for their analytical skills, articulate presentations and commitment to peacebuilding.
The event concluded on a high note with the award ceremony, where Mr. Manoj Kumar, alongside Dr. Neetu Sharma, Dr. Moitri Dey and the panel of judges, presented cash prizes and certificates of excellence to the top three teams, in first, second and third position. The program ended with a vote of thanks and a collective group photo session capturing the spirit of unity, leadership and peaceful collaboration.
