Monrovia, Liberia – UPF-Liberia, in collaboration with the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY) – the national umbrella youth institution of Liberia – and Young Ambassadors for Peace, joined government and other partners to commemorate International Youth Day on August 12, 2026.

This year’s celebration was held under the theme “Youth – Government Dialogue: Closing the Gap, Building Trust Between Young People and Government.” The government dialogue partner was the National Road Fund of Liberia (NRFL), which is considered a top performer in accountability and corporate governance. The event took place at the Monrovia City Hall, attended by over 200 youth, women, and representatives of civil society.

The panel discussion was moderated by Mr. Ernest Duku Jallah, president of the Federation of Liberian Youth. It was spearheaded by a representative of the National Road Fund of Liberia and provided a platform for young people to share their perspectives and make their recommendations directly.

As part of the program, a Special Statement on Peace was delivered by Rev. Gerald B. Coleman, an ambassador for peace representing UPF-Liberia. Rev. Coleman spoke on youth engagement for peace and character education. He encouraged young people to become ambassadors for peace and to resolve conflicts through dialogue, mutual respect, and adherence to the rule of law, centered on UPF’s Principles of Peace.

The event highlighted the importance of trust-building between youth and government institutions as a key step toward national development and lasting peace.

At a different event on the same day, in the same spirit of service and partnership, UPF-Liberia’s support team served as staff for a ceremony marking the 78th National Liberation Day of the Republic of Korea. The event was organized by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Alumni Association of Liberia.

This event took place at the Piano Bar Restaurant in Monrovia, and was primarily a cultural program. The country director of KOICA stationed in Nigeria, Mr. Eunsub Kim, attended on behalf of his country. Also in attendance was Dr. Ibrahim Nyei, deputy minister for international cooperation and economic integration in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with other dignitaries.

UPF Liberia’s participation reflects its commitment to promoting peace, cultural exchange and cooperation between Liberia and its international partners.
