St. Petersburg, Russia – The tenth and final Eco-Losevo Festival, on June 28-29, 2025, marked the end of a ten-year project to clean the shores of Lake Sukhodolskoye in the Leningrad region. Around 20 tons of waste were collected over the years, and this season’s effort brought the area to near-perfect condition.
Organized by Ms. Natalia Chigrina, head of UPF in Saint-Petersburg and Northwest Russia, the festival is usually held outdoors and timed to coincide with World Environment Day on June 5; this year it was moved to a warmer date due to local weather. Attendees included eco-activists, volunteers, and outdoor enthusiasts, many returning for the third, fifth, or even tenth time.
The event featured a musical program with long-time supporters Prizvanie and Tri-Niti, as well as new performers. Guests enjoyed food, team games, and rafting, but the main goal remained: cleaning the lake’s shore. In just under an hour, about 60 bags of trash were collected.
Participants also connected with organizers of professional cleanups, who map illegal dumps, coordinate with authorities, and lead volunteer teams, a model that inspired future action beyond Losevo.
Eco-Losevo became more than a cleanup: it fostered a culture of care and responsibility. The motto “Peace and order begin with each of us” captured the spirit of the event, a movement that now looks ahead to new locations and shared efforts for a cleaner planet.
