Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – With the participation of 100 ambassadors for peace, including three new ambassadors who were appointed at the event, UPF-Dominican Republic held a commemoration of the International Day of Peace at its headquarters in Santo Domingo on September 21, 2025.
To honor its commitment to the United Nations, UPF-Dominican Republic holds this celebration every year, with the aim of informing and encouraging peace ambassadors to contribute to conflict resolution in areas where the United Nations has been unable to find solutions.
UPF National Director Mr. Leonidas Belliard delivered the welcoming and motivational remarks, recalling the founding intention of Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon when they launched UPF, to complement the mission of the United Nations and contribute to building a world of peace and shared prosperity.
UPF Secretary General Mr. César Regalado gave a speech on the Universal Principles of UPF and the great achievements of the organization in a short time, especially in the interreligious sphere, considered one of the most difficult environments for peace work.
Professors Bélgica Ramirez and Diana Contreras expressed their commitment and dedication to continue working for peace and contributing to solving the terrible injustices of the wars and conflicts that are currently taking place around the world.
The three new ambassadors for peace expressed their gratitude and honor at being appointed, and pledged to honor the recognition. Words of gratitude for the appointment were given by the dean of faculty at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, Dr. Adria Figuereo.
The colorful finale of the event was provided by the ladies’ Hyojeong Choir, with the song “Hallelujah,” and a youth choir singing “One Family Under God.”
A moment of remembrance was offered for Mrs. Teiko Kono, one of the most fervent ambassadors in promoting peace among religious leaders and teaching character education in schools. Mrs. Kono passed away after battling cancer for more than 20 years.
At the time of the commemorative photo, the peace ambassadors appeared very pleased, full of hope, and eager to carry out their task of helping to build a peaceful world.
