Lima, Peru – Under the patronage of Congressman Dr. Raul Huaman Coronado, UPF-Peru and the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD) celebrated World Interfaith Harmony Week in the Sanchez Carrion Auditorium of the Peru Congress on February 6, 2026.
Over 200 guests assembled to participate in the meeting, where former government ministers and invited experts and religious leaders shared their thoughts about the importance of understanding and cooperation between religious communities.
An opening prayer was offered by Pastor Orestes Sánchez Luis, followed by an inaugural speech by Congressman Coronado. Dr. Trevor Jones, president of UPF-Peru, welcomed the guests in a video address.
Franciscan Sister Dr. Angela Montoya Vargas read a message from the United Nations explaining its theme for 2026, “Better Together for a Harmonious World,” and offered her commentary on the theme. Bishop Jesús Manuel Mejía Quiroz, former president of IAPD-Peru, spoke on the importance of dialogue and cooperation between religious communities. Pastor Marcelino Salazar, founder of the World Evangelism Ministry, spoke on “Revival and Social Transformation.”
Dr. Miguel Angel Rodríguez Mackay, former minister of foreign affairs, addressed the issue of religious freedom. A video tribute to Dr. Hak Ja Han, co-founder of UPF, was shown. Dr. Han, whose life has been dedicated to the service of humanity, is currently facing religious persecution in her home country.
Deacon Edwin Angel Oroz Yupanqui of the Risen Christ Apostolic Catholic Church offered a praise song with guitar accompaniment.
Interfaith leaders then participated in a Ceremony of Holy Water of Life and Peace, each pouring water into one common vessel to symbolize the unity of their faiths. Prayers were offered by Monsignor Angel Moran Vidal of the Orthodox Catholic Church of Peru and Bishop Aparicio Fuentes Guizado, founder of the Risen Christ Catholic Apostolic Church.
An appointment ceremony for new general secretaries of UPF associations was followed by an induction ceremony for 20 new ambassadors for peace.
Finally, Congressman Coronado offered closing remarks to conclude the event.
