Copenhagen, Denmark – An intercultural seminar titled "Language Beyond Borders" brought together writers, diplomats, educators and community representatives to explore how language and communication can foster inclusion, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence. The program was held on June 7, 2026, co-organized by UPF-Denmark and Women in Focus International, and led by UPF Ambassador for Peace Ms. Sadaf Mirza.

The event featured renowned Pakistani-Norwegian writer, columnist and translator Ms. Nadera Mehrnawaz and was honored by the presence of Amb. Shoaib Sarwar,  Pakistan’s ambassador to Denmark, and his wife, reflecting the importance of intercultural dialogue and cooperation.

Mr. Karsten Nielsen, secretary general of UPF-Denmark, introduced UPF's vision of building peace through interdependence, mutual prosperity and universally shared values. Referring to the seminar theme, he emphasized that language is far more than words. It is a way of sharing experiences, expressing hopes and values, and transforming individual lives into genuine community. Drawing on UPF's experience in more than 150 countries, he highlighted dialogue as one of the most powerful instruments for creating trust, understanding and lasting peace.

Throughout the seminar, a warm and respectful atmosphere encouraged participants to reflect on how language, literature and translation can strengthen understanding across cultural and linguistic boundaries. Although people represented different backgrounds, traditions and languages, they shared a common desire to build bridges of friendship and mutual respect.

The co-organizers expressed sincere appreciation for many years of cooperation with UPF. Following the seminar, UPF representatives joined the ambassador and other guests for dinner, reflecting the trust and friendship that have grown through long-standing collaboration.

The seminar reminded everyone present that language is more than a tool for communication. At its best, it transforms understanding into friendship and diversity into community. In that sense, "Language Beyond Borders" was not only the title of the seminar; it was an experience shared by everyone who took part.
