Cameroon’s Parliamentarians Mobilize for Peace and Dialogue

Yaoundé, Cameroon – In collaboration with the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP), UPF-Cameroon hosted a "Parliamentarians Action Day for Peace" at the National Assembly in Yaoundé on June 24, 2025. This high-level conference brought together 67 participants, including members of parliament, religious leaders, and civic stakeholders, united in their commitment to promote dialogue, national reconciliation, and sustainable peace.

This conference mobilized parliamentarians to reflect on how to build peace in the nation, and address the multiple crises and challenges facing Cameroon. It was held in alignment with the vision of the founders of UPF, who emphasize that peace must be rooted in moral leadership, the family, and interreligious cooperation.

A notable feature of the event was the participation and follow-up of the Cameroon delegation to the World Summit 2025 in Seoul, South Korea, led by Vice Speaker Hon. Mary Muyali Boya Meboka. Inspired by the global vision of peace shared in Korea, the delegation was determined to convey UPF's message of peace to their peers in Cameroon and to call for concrete action, including the implementation of practical resolutions that were adopted at the Summit.

The conference laid a firm foundation for deeper engagement. UPF-Cameroon now seeks to have the adopted resolution officially endorsed by the speaker of the National Assembly; continue peace education through follow-up workshops, digital campaigns, and interfaith roundtables; and encourage parliamentarians to champion peace policies in line with UPF’s principles.

This initiative demonstrates how parliamentarians, beyond their legislative duties, can become moral leaders and peacemakers, echoing UPF’s call for national healing through conscience, family renewal, and interdependence. The participation of Vice Speaker Hon. Meboka underscores the importance of international exposure translating into national action, serving as a model for future inter-parliamentary cooperation across Africa. It is now crucial that momentum be maintained through consistent dialogue, local ownership of peace initiatives, and deeper collaboration with UPF’s ambassadors for peace.
