Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso – More than 750 participants gathered at the Fatawa Islamic El Hairia center on August 2, 2025, for a belated celebration of World Environment Day. The event, organized by UPF-Burkina Faso and presided over by His Majesty Naaba Kiiba of Yatenga, brought together traditional chiefs, religious leaders, civil society members, youth representatives, and partner organizations.
The appointment of 57 new ambassadors for peace added to the country’s growing network of individuals committed to advancing social harmony. A symbolic tree-planting ceremony highlighted the connection between ecological preservation and the promotion of peace. Participants discussed strategies for integrating local communities into national reforestation programs, emphasizing that care for the environment and commitment to social stability are inseparable responsibilities.
The event also featured youth-led workshops on sustainable practices, interactive panels on environmental policy, and cultural performances, demonstrating how education, culture, and activism can converge to cultivate both a greener planet and a more peaceful society.
