UPF-Russia Interviews ‘Extreme’ Marathoner

Moscow, Russia—A marathon runner with a passion for extreme challenges was interviewed by UPF for an online broadcast.

The interview with Dmitry Yakukhny on August 16, 2023, received about 400 views.

During his visit to the UPF Peace Embassy, he was awarded an Ambassador for Peace certificate by UPF-Moscow leader Dmitry Samko.

Mr. Yakukhny is a father of four from the Russian Far East city of Vladivostok. His passion for extreme challenges and ultramarathons is worthy of admiration.

Throughout the pandemic and beyond, he has demonstrated unique accomplishments, highlighting his outstanding resilience and spirit of overcoming.

At the very beginning of the Covid pandemic, when the restrictions affected sports competitions, he showed his great endurance by running 100 km around his bed. This feat symbolizes his determination and ability to cope with difficulties.

The next significant step in his sports career was an ultramarathon in the Sahara Desert, where he covered an incredible 250 km. This extreme distance underlined his physical fitness and determination to achieve the impossible.

However, Dmitry Yakukhny is not only an ultramarathon runner but also a caring businessperson. As part of a charity 24-hour treadmill run, he raised the important issue of helping those in need, using his passion for running to support charitable causes.

One of the most impressive moments in his sports career came in 2019, when he participated in the Peace Road event in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea. As part of the UPF delegation, he not only ran a marathon but also rode a bicycle through the entire capital. This challenge highlighted his ability to transcend geographic and political boundaries for the sake of sport and peace.

Dmitry Yakukhny is a prime example of an athlete whose passion, determination and pursuit of extreme achievement inspire many. His exploits on the desert sands of the Sahara, his charitable causes, and an unusual journey in North Korea make him a prominent figure in the world of ultramarathons and the human spirit.
