Argentina’s Peace Road Finale Features Singer León Gieco

Updated: 2 days ago

El Trébol, Argentina – Famous singer and songwriter Mr. León Gieco graced the closing of the 11th Peace Road Argentina series of events on November 30, 2025, at the main venue in El Trébol, Santa Fe Province, more than 450 kilometers from the capital of Buenos Aires.

Mr. Gieco performed his well-known song, “Sólo le Pido a Dios,” at the beautiful Cervantes Cultural Center. This song represents a plea to God, in times of war and social unrest, that the singer retain his humanity and compassion. It served as a beacon of hope for all who participated in Peace Road events around the country.

Ms. Natalia Sánchez, mayor of El Trébol, and Mr. Esteban Motta, provincial senator from Santa Fe, offered words of welcome. Video messages from Ms. Graciela Pons, president of the Folklore and Popular Arts International Organization, and Ms. Carolina Costagrande, 2011 world volleyball champion, were followed by greetings from provincial authorities around the country.

UPF-Argentina organizers then shared a review of the activities that took place in all 23 provinces, starting on July 8th at the Buenos Aires City Legislature, and going all the way to Antarctica, under the 2025 theme, “Peace Flourishes in the Argentinian Embrace.”

Events included solidarity campaigns for indigenous communities in Misiones and Salta provinces; recreational activities in rural schools in the remote provinces of Chaco, Corrientes and San Juan; and athletic events such as a children’s football tournament in Córdoba, bike riding in San Luis and Entre Ríos, and walks in Mendoza and Formosa.

Other programs were: a workshop for mothers in Tierra del Fuego; gatherings for elderly people in Catamarca and cancer patients in Santa Cruz, La Pampa and Buenos Aires; eye care for patients in Simoca, Tucumán province; and CPR training in Chubut. Cultural initiatives took place in Jujuy, Santa Fe, Río Negro, La Rioja and Buenos Aires. Ecological activities, with various collaborators, took place in Santiago del Estero and Neuquén, where around 200 trees were planted in the Vaca Muerta shale field area.

“What makes Peace Road in Argentina truly special is its ability to gather all areas of society – public and private sectors, young people and older adults, citizens and institutions – all getting together with a common purpose: peace. Such unity is the strongest proof that peace is not just an ideal; it is a living reality that we build hand in hand, step by step,” said Mr. Eliecer Araya, president of UPF-Latin America and the Caribbean, in a video message.

Finally, UPF-Argentina presented El Trébol Municipality with a Peace Road trophy, a selection of photos of 2025 Peace Road events, and a copy of the Declaration of Commitment to Solidarity and Peace, which calls on Argentinians to “reconnect and recognize each other in the richness and diversity of cultures, nationalities, and spiritual traditions, to address new challenges with maturity and commitment to solidarity and peace.” The declaration has been signed by authorities of various governments and NGO leaders, among them Ms. Susana Rueda, culture minister of Santa Fe, and Ms. Natalia Sánchez, mayor of El Trébol.

One day earlier, on November 30, the city of El Trébol organized a tree-planting event, followed by the presentation of “We Are Siblings: We Are Family” awards – an initiative by UPF-Argentina and Pacis Nuntii to recognize individuals and groups for their community service. The UPF-Argentina delegation also attended the inauguration of the “Bonds of Love and Peace” mural at the City Council entrance, and a meeting with Malvinas veterans at Cervantes Theater.

The Peace Road world peace campaign was recognized by Argentina’s Senate and Chamber of Deputies in 2024, “For their noble purpose of bringing peoples and cultures together, transcending ethnicities, nationalities, and religions.” Peace Road is also recognized by various provincial legislatures and city councils around the country.
