UPF-New Zealand Program Focuses on Peace Principles

New Zealand-2015-06-20-Continue Study of UPF Peace Principles

Parnell, New Zealand—UPF Ambassadors for Peace continued their study of the UPF Peace Principles at a second presentation.

About 35 people came to the meeting held on June 20, 2015 at the UPF headquarters, which was a continuation of the study that began on April 11.

The event was emceed by Mr. Morrin Cooper, the former mayor of Howick, a suburb of Auckland, who became an Ambassador for Peace two years ago. Dame Jane Seccombe, who became an Ambassador for Peace last year, gave a moving opening prayer.

UPF-New Zealand Secretary General Geoffrey Fyers gave the opening remarks and read the Ramadan greetings from the Catholic Bishops Committee in New Zealand.

Two new Ambassadors for Peace certificates were awarded: to the Very Reverend Sirr Christoffersen, the leader of Sufism in New Zealand, and to Mrs. Swapna Kochher, a community leader in South Auckland. Each of the awardees expressed their appreciation of the award and spoke of their desire to work together with UPF in its programs and activities. The awarding was followed by a powerful rendition by Nobuh Tsukuda of the song “This Is the Moment.”

Rev. Julius Gicole, director of UPF-New Zealand, gave the presentation of the second part of the Peace Principles. Among other topics, he said that the unity of mind and body is the fundamental requirement for world peace. He also extended an invitation for a more in-depth study of the Peace Principles, which was well received by the participants.
