Nicaragua Hosts Peace Road 2015 Tour

Nicaragua-2015-06-13-Nicaragua Hosts 2015 Peace Road Tour

Managua, Nicaragua—On June 13, 2015, Nicaragua became the third Central American country to host the Peace Road 2015 bike tour. A group of 18 people, including members and representatives of UPF-Nicaragua, traveled to the Nicaraguan border with Costa Rica to receive the Peace Road flag from the Costa Rican delegation.

The next day, 12 cyclists left from the capital city of Managua to embark on a 90 kilometer journey to the city of Leon, where the Peace Road Flag was located. Three kilometers before reaching the city, the cyclists were met by a group of about 340 people, who then followed the cyclists and walked with them to the final destination of the ride: the Victory Sports field.

After the cyclists arrived, UPF-Nicaragua representative Rev. Jorge de Oliveira gave a short message about peace, which officially concluded the event.

Among the organizers and participants of the event were Ambassadors for Peace, leaders of the national police, government representatives, and youth, including: Mr. Gerónimo Vargas; Ms. Marcia Jirón; Mr. Luis Fernando Barrarte Jiménez; Mr. Denis Fonseca Bárcenas; Mr. Mario Ruiz; Mr. Alberto López; Dr. Ana Rosa Fonseca Bárcenas; Dr. Muriel Gamez; students at the National Institute of the West High School; and children of members of the Bufalo Infant Baseball League in Leon.

On the morning of June 16, a group of 27 people traveled to Guasaule, on the Nicaraguan border with Honduras, to pass the Peace Road Flag to Honduran delegation of the Peace Road tour.
