Forum Inspires Angolan Youth to Play Positive Role in Society

Luanda, Angola – On March 23, 2024, the annual celebration of Southern Africa Liberation Day was held in Luanda. To celebrate this holiday UPF-Angola organized a conference, together with Sawubona Africa, a radio program on National Radio of Angola. It was held at the Dr. Antonio Agostinho Neto Cultural Centre, and open to the public.

This date marked 36 years since the end of the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale, the longest battle to take place on the African continent since the end of World War II, which resulted in the withdrawal of South African forces from Angola and paved the way for Namibian independence. It is now a bank holiday, and a day that reminds Angolans of the importance of participating in building a prosperous and peaceful nation.

The program, aimed primarily at young people, was titled “The Integrity and Contribution of Young People in the Family and Society.” It featured Rev. Kinambuta Sambu Pedro, co-chair of UPF-Angola and coordinator of the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development, as the main speaker. In his presentation, Rev. Pedro sought to raise awareness about the propagation of ideas that harm society, clarify positive values, and provide direction on how to lead productive lives and raise exemplary families that can help stabilize society.

The meeting was characterized by an appreciation of African culture, with most of the participants wearing colorful, traditional African clothing. Also, it featured traditional local foods, as well as a book exhibit, including the biographies of UPF co-founders Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon.
