Australians Link Prosperity and World Peace

Sydney, Australia—Prosperity and world peace were the main topics at the bimonthly Ambassador for Peace meeting held on October 6, 2015.

Some 40 Ambassadors for Peace, UPF supporters, members and guests attended the meeting that was held at the Oceania Peace Embassy in Sydney.

They were welcomed by Jana Lajdova, a Youth Ambassador for Peace, who was the emcee for the program. After an introductory video about UPF activities was shown, UPF-Australia President Greg Stone gave an insightful presentation on the theme “From Poverty to Prosperity to World Peace.”

The special guest speaker was Andrew Chalk, inaugural chair of the Australian branch of Gawad Kalinga, an international poverty alleviation organization. He spoke about the origin and development of Gawad Kalinga in the Philippines, and about how he got involved. He also explained how the GK model is being adapted in Australia, currently in the rural New South Wales township of Dubbo. The audience was enthralled by his moving accounts of this organization that is transforming lives and communities.

The main program with the UPF Youth Choir performing the song “True Colors.”

As usual, the evening was a pleasant experience for all, with like-minded people of good will sharing food and good company irrespective of background, ethnicity and religion.
