Students from Korea Visit Moldova Schools

Chisinau, Moldova - In cooperation with UPF Moldova, a group of six students from Sun Moon University in Korea visited Moldova from Feb. 1-9, 2014.
The students—four Koreans, one Kazakh and one Moldovan—met with students from the Ştefan Neaga College of Music in the capital, Chişinău; the National College of Viticulture and Winemaking at Stăuceni; and the Mihail Sadoveanu High School in the city of Făleşti. On these occasions the students students spoke about Korea, the Korean culture and the opportunities for foreign students at Sun Moon University, which, like UPF, was founded by the Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon.
A highlight of the students’ activities was a visit to the SOS Autism charitable organization. There the students presented games and toys to the children and spent time playing with them. The students expressed their thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Gorincioi, the founders of SOS Autism, for spreading awareness of autism in Moldova and worldwide. The efforts made by the parents of autistic children to help their growth and development touched the hearts of the students.
SOS Autism has five main areas of activity: raising awareness about autism and increasing the possibility for early diagnosis and treatment; providing free or inexpensive training for autistic children; training new staff members; persuading kindergartens and schools to accept autistic children; and providing counseling and support for parents.
The biggest surprise for the SOS Autism staff members and Sun Moon students was the openness of the children to communicate and play with the visiting students.
This first visit was felt to be a solid foundation for future cooperation in joint projects to help autistic children and discover their hidden talents for the sake of a better future.
