Student Conference in Moscow Explores the Status of Children

Moscow, Russia - A student conference on: "The status of a child in society and the world, and children’s rights" related to the 20th anniversary of the Russian Federation Constitution and the UN Universal Children's Day was held on Nov. 22, 2013, at the Moscow Grammar school. Speakers addressed issues of children’s rights worldwide and drew attention the current issues.

Presenters and guests included representatives of public and student organizations in Moscow and Russia, Young Ambassadors for Peace, experts, activists and parents. The conference was also attended by schoolchildren of the 7th, 8th, 10th and 11th forms of Moscow grammar schools, as well as representatives of the Academy of State Emergency Fire Service, the Russian Academy of Civil Protection and Emergency Situations, and the O.E. Kutafin Academy of the Moscow State Law Academy.

Presenters covered a large range of topics related to the status and rights of children, addressed key legal and social issues, shared results of their studies and engaged in fierce debates on issues of concern.

Awards were given to the best presentations in the following categories:

1.     Relevance
2.     The ability to conduct a public debate
3.     The best presentation
4.     The best representative of the author's position
5.     Originality of the topic
6.     Interdisciplinary content
7.     In-depth study
8.     Practical significance

The conference was held under the support of the Scientific and Methodological Council of the Gymnasium. Partners included the "Science Plus" project of the Eurasian Club of Young Ambassadors for Peace, Kazan International School student UN model project, the Universal Peace Federation, the Youth Center of the south-east district of Moscow, Youth Commonwealth, and the "Equator" Academy of the Ministry of Education.

Organizers congratulated the presenters and wished them success in their future research.
