Young Ambassadors for Peace Staff UN Displays at Moscow Book Fair

Moscow, Russia - The 24th International Book Fair with the participation of 1500 publishing companies from 57 countries around the world took place at the All-Russia Exhibition Center in Moscow September 7 to 12. It was the seventh time that UN bodies presented information about their activities; this year there were two stands: “United Nations in the Russian Federation” and “Human Rights.”

Near the stands were UN representatives and Young Ambassadors for Peace – volunteers of the Universal Peace Federation – who explained to people stopping at the booths about UN activities in Russia and throughout world and offered copies of UN publications.

The UN materials embraced such issues as social and economic development, human rights, prevention of HIV/AIDS, demographics, gender equality, public health, labor protection, and sustainable urban environments. There were also materials about children, refugees, international law, climate change, control of narcotic drug circulation, and environmental protection.

During the six days of the Book Fair, the UN stands drew the attention of more than 3,000 visitors. About 9,000 copies of UN publications were handed out free.
