Relay Race from Moscow to St. Petersburg

Moscow, Russia - The track-and-field relay race dedicated to the100th anniversary of all track-and-field competitions of Russia and initiated by the International Super-Marathon Association was completed on August 3. Among the participants were athletes from the Ukraine as well as the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, and Novgorod, Russia.

For ten days, from July 25 until August 3, the runners covered more than 1000 km, spending the nights in cities along the route, sleeping in school gyms in sleeping bags. Every morning, athletes continued their race to the next city. On their way, they were joined by local athletes. Together they proceeded to the next city, carrying with them flags and the banner of the program.

In St. Petersburg, the athletes ran to the finish point together with local runners who joined them at Pulkovo Hill south of the city. There they were welcomed by a representative of the City Sports Committee who expressed his appreciation and thanks for organizing such an interesting and good sports program under the up-to-date slogan “Sports – Yes! Drugs – No!”

Representatives of the north-west chapter of UPF-Russia also made an impact. Secretary General Tatyana Krasnosumova organized a sightseeing program.

At the end of the program, delicious refreshments were served to the participants; the treat was provided by representatives of the Dekathlon program, which sponsors the event. They also supplied the athletes with complete sports attire. Youth staff members of the company were greatly inspired when participants shared their experiences; they asked many questions. The young managers of the company expressed their desire to participate in future running programs.
