UPF Joins Volunteers in Moscow Recycling Drive

Russia-2020-10-20-UPF Joins Volunteers in Moscow Recycling Drive

Moscow, Russia—UPF joined an annual recycling drive, collecting paper and cardboard in a Moscow district.

The annual Moscow Region ecological action titled "Hand over the Waste Paper – Save the Tree!" was held on October 20, 2020.

Despite the cloudy weather, a group consisting of local officials, youth, the media, and public organizations—including the Universal Peace Federation—gathered in Moscow’s Lyubertsy District to support the federal environmental action within the Resource Saving Project. Many residents are enthusiastic about caring for and preserving nature!

“The main task of the action is to draw people's attention to conscious consumption, make people think about the wastefulness of natural resources use, and also contribute to the development of recycling of waste,” explained Vadim Vorontsov, deputy minister of ecology and nature management of the Moscow Region, opening the ceremonial part of the action.

“The ecological culture in the region is on the rise, which gives cause for optimism,” Mr. Vorontsov said. “A fundamentally new waste management system has been created in the Moscow Region, and the support of residents in this is very important."

Elena Grishina, the chair of the Commission on Ecology, Nature Management and Preservation of Forests of the Public Chamber of the Moscow Region, spoke about the importance of the action.

The autumn stage of "Hand over the Waste Paper – Save the Tree!" will last until November 13. Last year the Moscow Region was the winner of the action by collecting the greatest amount of waste paper. The project has existed since 2015, gaining popularity not only in our region but also throughout the country.

The action was initiated by the Public Chamber of the Moscow Region with the support of the Regional Ministry of Ecology and the all-Russian environmental social project Ecobox.
