UPF Partners with Project WISH to Reduce Health Disparity in Low-Income Women

USA-2010-07-16-UPF Partners with Project WISH to Reduce Health Disparity in Low-Income Women

Washington, DC, USA - The Universal Peace Federation -Washington, DC (UPF-DC) office has been hosting numerous educational seminars and forums about spiritual and physical well being as a vital condition for building better families and societies in the nation.

As a new initiative, UPF-DC is partnering with District of Columbia Department of Health, Project WISH (Women Into Staying Healthy) Program to promote breast and cervical cancer awareness, screening, and health education to minority women in the District of Columbia and its suburbs.

The District of Columbia ranks high in the United States for breast and cervical cancer mortality.  Project WISH is part of a national effort supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The program targets minority, low-income women who are 40 years of age and older.

Project WISH is an initiative established in 1997 to reduce the District's breast, cervical and ovarian cancer burden.

Project WISH offers free clinical breast exams, mammograms, pelvic exams, pap tests and follow up tests and case management if results are abnormal and referral for treatment if there is a cancer diagnosis to low-income women with little or no insurance. Transportation to and from exams and translation services are provided upon request.

UPF-DC is proud to partner with Project WISH in this endeavor to reduce breast cancer disparity. In this partnership, UPF will collaborate with Project WISH and faith-based organizations in educational and outreach programs.
