Mullaitivu, Sri Lanka—The Sri Lanka chapters of UPF, the Religious Youth Service (RYS) and the International Association of Youth and Students for Peace (IAYSP) distributed dry rations on September 4, 2022 to 300 women-headed families in Mullaitivu district in Northern Province, Sri Lanka who have been severely impacted by the ongoing economic crisis in the country. Mullaitivu itself was greatly affected by the 26-year civil war in Sri Lanka, which ended in 2009.
Hon. K. Kader Masthan, state minister of the Rural Economy and chairman of the District Coordinating Committee of Mannar and Mullaitivu; coordinating secretaries of the state minister; and other dignitaries from government and non-governmental institutions participated in the occasion.
The project was funded by around U.S. $5,300 in donations that were raised by two long-time supporters of UPF, IAYSP and RYS, Ms. Fazida Razak and Ms. Angelia Devi.
