UPF-Cameroon Honors UN Day of Peace

Cameroon-2018-09-28-UPF-Cameroon Honors UN Day of Peace

Yaoundé, Cameroon—UPF-Cameroon’s 2018 commemoration of UN International Day of Peace on September 28 attracted over 74 participants. The conference, held at the Muna Foundation, had the title: “The Right to Peace—70 Years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”

The conference began with an opening prayer from Pastor Abela and Imam Modibo, representing Christianity and Islam. The anthem was sung by all. UPF-Cameroon Secretary General Fongoh Innocent was the emcee and gave a word of welcome. This was followed by a video presentation of UPF’s founders, objectives, and global activities. Then a youth choir, Peace Voices, performed the song “Steady My Heart.”

Thereafter UPF-Cameroon President Edwin Plekhanov read the 2018 International Day of Peace message from the UN secretary general, wherein he emphasized the importance of achieving sustainable development goals with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as our guide. Peace, he said, “takes roots when people are free from hunger, poverty and operation, and can thrive and prosper.”

Secretary General Innocent presented UPF’s five Principles of Peace, laying emphasis on the need for everyone to fulfill his or her duty to protect the rights of all and especially to shun sexual immorality. This was followed by a performance from Peace Voices, who sang “Read All About It.”

President Plekhanov gave the closing remarks, thanking all for coming. He also talked about upcoming UPF events in Zimbabwe and South Africa, urging guests to consider participating in these events and becoming Ambassadors for Peace. He also announced the upcoming launch of Youth and Students for Peace and encouraged everyone to support it.

The event ended with group pictures and refreshments.

Generally the impressions were very good. Many participants want to be part of UPF’s upcoming programs. Following are a few evaluations.
