D.R. Congo-2017-10-03-UN International Day of Peace and National Peace Council

Kinshasa, DR Congo—On the occasion of UN International Day of Peace, UPF-DR Congo, in collaboration with the Congolese government, organized an event to launch the UPF National Peace Council. The theme was “Peace, Unity and Solidarity for a Stronger Congo” and was held on September 30.

More than 300 people gathered for the event at the INPP Building (National Vocational Training Institute). Included among the guests was the Procurer-General of the Constitutional Court, who was nominated as an Ambassador for Peace, as well as the current head of the government cabinet, who also was appointed as an Ambassador for Peace. The National Peace Council was established in the presence of many distinguished political authorities, parliamentarians, and religious and civic community leaders.

The program began with opening remarks by Mr. Mike Makenda, director of communications, UPF-DR Congo. He gave a presentation about the worldwide activities of UPF, which was followed by Rev. Jean-Pierre Kadima, secretary general, UPF-DR Congo, who delivered the Founder’s address.

The UPF secretary general thanked everyone present for their participation and encouraged them to do their best to bring peace to the country. He said that the National Peace Council would be a “good tool for the peace process in DR Congo which is facing many difficulties during this time especially since the presidential elections.”
