Austria: Examining the Sustainable Development Goals

In honor of International Day of Peace, an innovative event will be held at the United Nations’ offices in Vienna on September 16, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Peace and Sustainable Development: Intergenerational Challenges” will look at the intergenerational challenges of peace through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Sponsored by UPF-Austria and the Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS), this event aims to animate the SDGs with historical context, contemporary realities, and a forward-looking vision.

The compelling combination of international speakers and panelists ranges from diplomats, academics, and civil society leaders to UN officials and public-policy experts.

In a unique approach, speakers will include female World War II witnesses from around the world, including an atomic bomb survivor, a woman who lived through the Blitz bombings in the United Kingdom, and an Austrian subjected to deportation and forced labor. Young people will be incorporated into the event both as audience members and as musical performers.

Insightful and frank discussions will focus on the connection between peace and the implementation of various SDGs, including the topics of disarmament and public engagement.

The program will be held in Conference Room C3 of the C Building of the Vienna International Center (United Nations), which is located at Wagramer Strasse 5, Vienna 1220.

In order to enter the UN offices, it is necessary to have an entry pass. If you do not have a permanent pass, please register for the program no later than September 13:
