International Day of Peace Celebrated in Nepal

Kathmandu, Nepal - The UN International Day of Peace 2014 was celebrated by UPF-Nepal with programs in Kathmandu, Nepaljung, Pokhara, Chitwan, Dhangadhi and Biratnagar. These programs included activities such as: 1) a food and clothing distribution to elderly people 2) distributing school supplies to students, 3) a family awareness and value education program, 4) a speech contest at a school about the right to peace, and 5) an interactive program with elderly women and school students about the right to peace.

Kathmandu - Mr. Piya Ratna Maharjan coordinated an interactive program with elderly women and students in the Shanti Sewa Ashram. About 30 women and 40 students participated

Biratnagar - Mr. Nara Bahadur Dahal organized a distribution of food, clothing and blankets to eight elderly people at the Mahila Jaarit Bridasram.

Chitwan - Mr. Ram Prasad Gyawali organize a speech contest on the theme "The Right of Peoples to Peace." Two hundred students, teachers and Ambassadors for Peace attended the program.

Pokhara - Mr. Ram Chandra Devkota organized an educational program in the Motherland Higher Secondary School about family values for 200 participants. The UN Secretary-General's message was read by Mr. Khem Bahadur Gurung, an Ambassador for Peace and vice principal of the Social Public School. The chief guest was Mr. Tara Nath Adhikari, head of the local government.

Nepaljung - Mr. Ashok Kumar Chaudhary coordinated distribution of school supplies to freed Kamlahari children (people who had been household slaves) of the Tharu community.

Dhangadhi - Mr. Navin Jaisi coordinated distribution of school supplies at the Shree Saraswati Higher Secondary School to freed Kamlahari children (people who had been household slaves) of the Tharu community.
