Day of Peace in Mindanao, Philippines

Davao and Cagayan de Oro, Philippines - To commemorate the UN International Day of Peace, UPF organized events in Davao and Cagayan de Oro on the southern island of Mindanao.

Davao City

In collaboration of the Department of Education and its NGO partners, UPF-Davao organized a Peace Forum at the Philippine College of Technology on September 20. Participants included Ambassadors for Peace, NGO leaders, educators, business leaders, and military and police officers.

Dr. Chung Sik Yong, chair of UPF-Asia, emphasized that peace begins in the individual and expands to the family, society, and the world. The breakdown of family values leads to chaos in society. He distributed copies of the autobiography of UPF Founder Rev. Sun Myung Moon.

People enjoyed conversation during a delicious dinner.

Cagayan de Oro City

On September 21, UPF-Cagayan de Oro organized a conference on the theme of “Celebrating Diversity of Race, Tradition and Culture towards Achieving Peace and Development through a Culture of Heart.” The 55 participants included Ambassadors for Peace, NGO leaders, professors, teachers, business leaders, local officials, religious leaders, and youth leaders from universities in Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental, and Misamis Occidental.

Dr. Chung Sik Yong talked about the role Ambassadors of Peace in promoting development, freedom, and peace through a culture of heart and invited people to participate in an upcoming seminar.

A youth leader, Mr. Christopher Rivera, expressed gratitude for the guidance he has received through UPF's guiding principles and encouraged others to look for opportunities to serve the community.

Participants signed a declaration about the International Day of Peace. The program concluded with the reading of a message about peace from the Mayor of Oroquita City.
