Majuro, Marshall Islands - The fourth convention of the Traditional Chiefs of Micronesia, held in Majuro from September 21 to 26, was hosted by the Council of Iroji (Traditional Chiefs) of the Marshall Islands along with the Marshall Islands government. In Micronesia, politicians, religious leaders, and traditional chiefs are the key leaders in society, and the role of traditional chiefs is important in preserving peaceful communities.
Hon. Kotak Leoak, Chairman of the Council of Traditional of Iroji and an Ambassador for Peace, included the Peace Declaration in his opening remarks of the convention, calling the attention of the Traditional Leaders to the UN International Day of Peace. Participants included leaders from the Marshall Islands, Micronesia (Kosrae, Pohnpei, Yap, Tuck), Palau, Guam, and Kiribati.
Ambassadors for Peace held a meeting and peace rally at UPF's Peace Embassy. Former President of Micronesia, H.E. Kessai Note, gave a report about the recent Global Peace Festival which he attended in Mongolia as well as a congratulatory message on the International Day of Peace.
