Tbilisi, Georgia - UPF-Georgia organized several events between May 13 and May 18 in commemoration of the International Day of Families.

Lecture at School #136, May 13

UPF-Georgia presented a lecture on "The Family as a School of Love" at School #136 for 8th grade Russian- and Georgian-speaking pupils on May 13 in observance of the International Day of Families. About 60 children and teachers learned about the importance of friendship, keeping pure before marriage, and character development as a foundation for a strong family.

Celebration at the Center of Free Pedagogy, May 16

On May 16 Universal Peace Federation in collaboration with Center of Free Pedagogy, the High School of Art, and youth volunteers from School #136 organized a celebration of the UN International Day of Families for children with intellectual and physical limitations. About 100 parents and children participated. The celebration started with guests learning about the history and significance of the UN International Day of Families. Parents and children enjoyed a concert, puppet show, and African dancing. At the end of the program the children shared a large cake. Participants experienced the atmosphere of love and friendship and didn’t want to leave.

Celebration at the Esoteric Club, May 17

UPF-Georgia and the Esoteric Club in Tbilisi organized a celebration of UN International Day of Families on May 17. About 30 people joined the program. The celebration started with a lecture by Konstantin Krylov, Secretary General of UPF-Russia, who shared with participants about the value of the family as a school of love and peace and described the work UPF is conducting to promote peace and harmony in the family and the world. The lecture was followed by dynamic discussion. Then participants enjoyed a musical performance. Young Georgian singers performed, creating a family spirit of unity. After the concert, a celebration cake was cut and enjoyed in the atmosphere of love and friendship.

National Leadership Conference, May 18

On May 18 a National Leadership Conference was held on the theme of “The South Caucasus Peace Initiative” at the Center of Free Pedagogy. The seminar was attended by 20 participants, including political leaders (the former Abkhazian Minister of Health. Dalila Khorava), NGO leaders, and representatives of diaspora communities. Konstantin Krylov, the Secretary General of UPF-Russia, gave four presentations on the Principles of Creation, the Root of Conflict, and the History of the Universal Peace Federation.

The participants, many of whom had attended UPF seminars between 2008 and 2011, responded very well to the lectures. Mr. Krylov’s talk stimulated great interest. Jury Lukashvili, the Senior Teacher at the Tbilisi National Youth Palace, and Marina Shostak, Director of the Center of Free Pedagogy, were appointed Ambassadors for Peace.
