Nepal ‘Peace Talks’ Webinar Commemorates World Interfaith Harmony Week

Nepal-2021-02-06-Nepal ‘Peace Talks’ Commemorates World Interfaith Harmony Week

Kathmandu, Nepal—UPF-Nepal held a second program to celebrate World Interfaith Harmony Week, a “Peace Talks” webinar on “The Role of Academicians for Peace and Nation-building,” on February 6, 2021. Forty-six people participated in the virtual event.

Welcome remarks were given by Mr. Navin Raj Jaisai, a youth leader of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification-Nepal.

Prof. Dr. Hem Raj Panta, a former registrar of Far Western University, said academicians should explore the conscience of the society and speak based on facts without getting influenced by external factors. He also underscored the need for values-based education in society and said that poor management is why we are poor today.

Mr. Narayan Prasad Koirala, former member secretary, Higher Secondary Education Board of Nepal, explained the two models for nation building: the accommodative model and the resist model. The accommodative model, he said, seems to be better for nation development with applied skills for knowledge mapping among people.

Hon. Ek Nath Dhakal, a former minister of the government of Nepal and chairman of UPF-Asia Pacific, said nation-building depends on two factors: economic development and human development and that both of these factors must be balanced in order to build a nation. He explained the vision of the UPF founder, Dr. Sun Myung Moon: “If families from a nation live for the public sake, the nation is likely to prosper. Likewise, if families of a nation are self-centered, then the nation is likely to fall short.”

Mr. Binod Dangi, secretary general of UPF-Nepal, was the moderator.

The program was organized by Mr. Damber Bahadur Pal, campus chief of the Durga Laxmi Multiple Campus, and coordinator of the Ambassadors for Peace Association of Nepal, District Peace Council of Sudur Paschim province.
