Global Day of Parents Observed in Georgia

Tbilisi, Georgia - UPF-Georgia organized a number of educational programs from May 28 to 30 dedicated to the annual celebration of the Global Day of Parents.

A presentation on “The UN and a New Philosophy of Peace” was held at the Free University in Tbilisi on May 28. The event was organized in partnership with the Club of Future Diplomats. About 50 students of different universities and representatives of NGOs attended the presentations. At the event the following topics were extensively discussed: human rights, the necessity of strengthening UN peacebuilding by including an interreligious peace council at the UN, interfaith dialogue, and the family as the paradigm of peace. The dean of the Free University expressed his desire to cooperate with UPF for future events.

On May 29 Ambassadors for Peace and NGO leaders attended a seminar on Women’s Role in World Peace – A Unification Thought Approach. Key Georgian Ambassadors for Peace and guests learned about the historical role women have played in human development, the activities of the Women's Federation for World Peace, and UPF's core peace principles. A plan for the development of the Women's Federation in Georgia was made.

Ambassadors for Peace and NGO activists discussed the value of Parents' Day, issues of human rights centered on absolute values, and ways of solving moral confusion in the modern world at the meeting that took place at the office of the NGO “Georgia in Support of Refugees” on May 30. With great interest, participants discussed the importance of families practicing altruistic love as the foundation for solving urgent social issues.
