Mancham Peace Center Opens in Seychelles

Victoria, Seychelles—An international peace center, named for the nation’s first president, an avid supporter of UPF, has opened at the University of Seychelles.

The official launch of the Sir James Mancham International Centre for Peace Studies and Diplomacy was held on August 11, 2017, the anniversary of Sir James’ birth.

Sir James Mancham (1939-2017) was a former board member of UPF. He gave it a full chapter in his 2009 autobiography, Seychelles Global Citizen.

The peace center was originally Sir James' idea. After his unexpected death in January, it was developed by the University of Seychelles, the Mancham family, and an international group of diplomats and businesspersons.

The official launch was attended by Seychelles Vice President Vincent Meriton, former President James Michel, Minister of Health Jean-Paul Adam, and several government ministers, diplomats, businesspersons, and many of Sir James’ friends and allies.

Dr. Gordon Anderson, a longtime member of UPF and editor of International Journal on World Peace, which Sir James also advised, was appointed to the board of the new peace center.
