Cambodian Peace Road Connects to Korean Unification Hopes

Cambodia-2015-08-15-Cambodian Peace Road Connects to Korean Unification Hopes

Phnom Penh, Cambodia—About 50 students and other young people bicycled and walked through Cambodia’s capital as part of the UPF initiative Peace Road 2015.

The participants gathered at 5:30 a.m. in front of the Royal Palace of Cambodia for words of encouragement from Mr. Chamroeun Sophal, UPF-Cambodia secretary general. The event, held on August 15, 2015, was connected to the hope for the reunification of the Korean Peninsula. The program also featured an officer from the International Affairs Department of the National Assembly and also Mr. Sok Seng Yan, president of UPF-Cambodia.

After that, they were on their way, heading first to the Independence Monument, a symbol of peace. The monument was built after the end of Cambodia’s 90 years as a French protectorate from 1863 to 1953.

From the monument they proceeded along the riverside and ended the Peace Road event at Camko City, which is short for “Cambodia-Korea City.” The urban development project symbolizes the relationship between Cambodia and Korea.

The organization of the event started on June 14, 2015, with a Peace Road 2015 Launching Ceremony at the Khemera Battambang I Hotel in Battambang province, which was attended by UPF-Asia Chair Dr. Chung Sik Yong and all UPF leaders of Asia with about 200 young people.
